A Divine Interruption

My goal for today was simply to scout out a location we’re taking some visitors to. Making sure I knew how to get there, where the ticket place is, etc. Nothing too spiritual, just the mundane.

And it is those moments that God shows himself sovereign.

He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way. All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies. (Psalm 25:9, 10 NASB)

I entered with eyes open and prayers going up to heaven from my heart as I looked for bathrooms, places to eat, and whether there were lots of people there we could talk to. I was stopped repeatedly to get my picture taken with babies I’ve never met. But being a foreigner means I’ve given up all anonymity.

So I walked. I prayed. I smiled at ladies I passed.

“Do you want to drink tea with me?”

I almost didn’t hear her as I walked by. She sat on a blanket under the only tree in this area next to her young son. I paused, turned and smiled at her.

“Of course I would!”

We chatted while drinking tea and munching on cheese sandwiches and I was grateful for the little bit of shade that protected me from the intense sun bearing down on us.

“My husband will be here soon. Will you stay and meet him?”

And in that instant the Holy Spirit told me to stay.

A few minutes later our wait for her husband was over. He sat down next to his wife and asked me, “Are you a Muslim?”

“No, I follow Jesus.”

“Ah, but we are brothers,” he replied.

“Yes, but let me ask you this: what do you do to have your sins forgiven?”

And so my afternoon turned from trying to get another task on my to do list completed to a divine interruption that offered an opportunity to share the truth of Jesus who takes away our sin.
